When to Arrive
Plan to arrive in time to attend your prescribed orientation event. Undergraduate students, plan to arrive in time to attend the SLO Days Orientation on September 9th unless you attend a previous SLO Days event in the summer. Attendance is mandatory. Graduate student orientation is planned for September 12th. All international students must attend International Student Orientation Lunch on September 13th from noon to 2pm. See the Orientation Programs for International Students for more information.
Classes begin on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Some special graduate programs begin earlier. You may arrive in the USA up to 30 days prior to your I-20 start date and you may depart up to 60 days after your I-20 end date.
How to Get Here
Transportation via air, bus, or train is available from either San Francisco or Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo (SBP). San Luis Obispo is approximately 225 miles from Los Angeles to the south and San Francisco to the north. It is best to book your flight all the way through to San Luis Obispo. You may also take the Amtrak train or Greyhound bus to San Luis Obispo from Los Angeles or San Francisco. Once you arrive in San Luis Obispo, you will need to take a taxi, Uber, or Lyft ride to your apartment or hotel.
If you intend to stay in a hotel or motel when you first arrive, make reservations well in advance of your arrival. Here are some hotels and motels that are close to campus:

A youth hostel, Hostel Obispo is located close to campus at 1617 Santa Rosa St., San Luis Obispo, and is another option for temporary housing until you get settled in an apartment. Call (805) 544-4768 or go online to make a reservation.
International students living on campus may request to move in early. Contact University Housing to make arrangements. If you will be arriving at night, be sure to make arrangements with University Housing ahead of time so someone can be available to let you in.
